Has your fantasy football league become a bit stale over the years? Has the daily trash talking morphed into weekly or bi-weekly jabs? Does your fantasy draft party need a facelift? If you answered yes to any of those questions, your fantasy football league may be lame!
Here are the top 5 reasons why your fantasy draft party is lame along with some tips of how to fix it. Problem 1: You Can’t Stereotype everyone in your league If you can’t, within 2 minutes, add a stereotype to everyone in your league, you’ve done something wrong! There is always at least one “Mr Feeling” in every league, you just gotta figure out who it is! Solution: Watch this YouTube video with your entire league to determine who fits “The Homer”, “Mr Know it All”, “The Ridiculous Trader”, and others fantasy football stereotypes. Problem 2: You Don’t Use Keepers If you haven’t started using keepers, you’re probably still calculating each teams score by looking at a newspaper every Monday morning. It’s time to bring your fantasy league up to the 21st century, so why haven’t you enabled keepers for your league? Keepers are a great way to keep your league engaged throughout the offseason, and also adds more weight to the draft itself. Solution: Each manager should be given an opportunity to keep two or three players at the final auction price or the round in which they were drafted in the previous year. You can start this year by making an announcement at the start of the draft. Problem 3: You Haven’t Considered an Auction Draft It’s worth mentioning that an auction fantasy football draft is not for everyone. In fact, for some leagues, it’s downright painful. An auction fantasy football draft will take twice as long as a standard snake draft, and you need to be paying attention for the entire draft. An auction draft does, however, allow you to get far more creative with your draft strategy. Solution: Hold an auction draft this year and see how your league responds. Problem 4: You Always Have (at least) 1 Auto Drafter If you have even 1 auto drafter, I promise you that your fantasy football league is lame. If you’re unable to get your entire league to commit to a day and time for a fantasy draft party, you might as well quit and find a new league. Solution: Make your draft party something that people look forward to! Problem 5: Your Entire League is Glued to the Computer This is the easiest way to determine if your fantasy football league is lame. Does your fantasy football draft party brings back memories of a late night study pow-wow before final exams? Sure, it’s convenient if everybody lives in the same state, but there’s no excuse for drafting your team on the ESPN or Yahoo! Live Draft software when you’re all in the same room. Solution: Invest in a live draft board. Have you ever seen The League? If so, you already know that using a live draft board is the best way to host a fantasy draft party.
